Annual Events

Strawberry Social

OZ STRAWBERRY LINE
Second Saturday in June, 3:30-6:30 PM

Old Zion’s annual Strawberry Social, is held on SECOND SATURDAY OF JUNE at Old Zion Church, Reifsnyder Road in Brickerville.

You will enjoy sampling the homemade chicken corn soup, which is made on the premises in a cast iron kettle.  Then savor the tastes of homegrown, ripe strawberries combined with cake, ice cream, and whipped topping.   A cup of iced tea is included to help you “wash down” this HUGE dessert.

The view of Brubaker Valley from the church’s hillside is simply lovely.

All of the proceeds from the Strawberry Social go toward helping to maintain and preserve quaint Old Zion and its surrounding grounds and cemetery.

Bring your lawn chairs, food trays, and your friends to enjoy a beautiful, old-fashioned summer afternoon.

Anniversary Service

Second Sunday in September
4 PM

The Anniversary Service includes a hint into the past where you can experience and imagine Old Zion Church in an 1813 setting.  The pump organ sings and the vaulted ceiling carries voices across the Brubaker Valley.  The annual service features elements of a German Reformed church service with a historical perspective.  Lemonade and cookies are served on the lawn following the service.  Please join us for a restorative time of worship and music at Old Zion Church, Brickerville.

DEC. 9 –

The Christmas season is almost here, take a break from the hustle and bustle; it’s time to mark Old Zion’s Carol Sing on the calendar, Saturday, December 9.  There are two services, 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM.  Free tickets required.  Candles and the gorgeous kerosene chandelier will light the church; lovely greenery decorations will be hung, and the music of the season will fill the building.

The unique, modern barbershop quartet, “Break from Blue Collar” will provide musical entertainment and will lead singing the beloved holiday carols.  “Break from Blue Collar” is a new, local group whose members are: tenor – Zach Bailey, lead – Ben Hallowell, baritone – Tyler Hart, and bass – Shaun Ressler.  They’ve begun to develop a following and were awarded the Best Novice Quartet at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Central Division Barbershop Contest.

There is no electricity in the building.  It is important to dress warmly and to bring a flashlight to read the song sheets and to guide you along the pathways.
